EPAT® Treatment - Cleveland Health Center

EPAT® – Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology

EPAT® (Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology), also known as Radial Pressure Wave Therapy is a non-invasive therapy used to help treat a wide range of musculoskeletal pain conditions. Like ESWT, EPAT delivers therapeutic acoustic pressure waves into injured or irritated tissue to support the body's natural repair process. It is commonly used in orthopedic and sports medicine settings for both chronic and overuse injuries.

Clinical experience shows EPAT can be helpful for problems involving tendons, ligaments, muscles, and fascia, especially when pain has lingered or keeps coming back. Common applications include heel pain/plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon pain, tennis elbow, jumper's knee, shoulder tendon pain, hip pain related to tendon irritation, shin splints, muscle tightness/trigger points, and some types of back pain linked to soft-tissue strain or overuse.

During treatment, acoustic pulses are generated outside the body in a handheld applicator and delivered through the skin using ultrasound gel for smooth contact. The pulses are directed to the area of concern, where they may help increase local circulation, support metabolism and tissue remodeling, and reduce pain sensitivity over time. EPAT is performed in-office, does not require surgery or anesthesia, and patients can typically return to normal daily activities shortly afterward.
