Ultrasound-Guided Procedures

Interested in ultrasound-guided injections and procedures for joint and soft-tissue pain? Learn how real-time ultrasound guidance helps improve precision, comfort, and results for targeted treatments, including joint injections and regenerative options like PRP. Click below for a detailed explanation.

Ultrasound-Guided Joint and Soft Tissue Injections

At Cleveland Health Center, we use real-time ultrasound guidance to help make injections more precise and more comfortable. Ultrasound allows us to visualize the joint, tendon, bursa, or targeted soft tissue in real time, so we can place medication exactly where it's intended rather than relying on surface landmarks alone.

What conditions can this help?

Ultrasound-guided procedures may be used to support relief and recovery for many common musculoskeletal concerns, including:

  • Joint pain and inflammation in areas such as the knee, shoulder, hip, and other joints
  • Bursitis (for example, trochanteric bursitis at the hip)
  • Tendon and soft tissue inflammation
  • Piriformis-related pain
  • Selected back-related pain concerns, depending on the location and diagnosis

What types of injections do you offer?

Depending on your condition and goals, your plan may include:

  • Corticosteroid injections to help reduce inflammation and pain
  • Viscosupplementation (gel injections) to support joint lubrication and smoother movement, most commonly for osteoarthritis-related joint symptoms
  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injections, a regenerative option that uses your body's own healing factors to support recovery

What to expect during your visit

We start with a focused evaluation and review of your symptoms, imaging (if available), and exam findings. The area is then cleaned and prepared, ultrasound is used to confirm the target, and the injection is performed with ultrasound guidance. Most patients return to normal daily activities quickly, with specific aftercare instructions provided based on the procedure performed.

Why ultrasound guidance matters

Ultrasound guidance can improve accuracy, help avoid sensitive structures, and support more confident, targeted care. Most importantly, it helps us tailor treatment to the exact source of pain whenever possible.
